RSD Varsity Basketball Teams Participate in ISD Clerc Classic 01/16-19/14
Rochester Girls and Boys Demonstrate Strength of their
Athletic Programs
Rochester varsity girls and boys basketball teams traveled
to Indianapolis, January 16-19, 2014, to participate in the 14th
Annual Clerc Basketball Classic, hosted by Indiana School for the Deaf. The
Wildcats came out as winners in their own right – going toe-to-toe against
larger schools, while representing the strength and quality of RSD’s athletic
programs.
Our Rochester boys took home the 5th place consolation
trophy, 40-33 over Illinois. Our girls took 7th place over Illinois
43-19.
The Lady wildcats set a Clerc Tournament record with 8
three-pointers in a single game in a loss against Texas. The old record was 6
three-pointers by Indiana in 2012. Our girls also set record for three-pointers
in a 3-day tournament with 15.
Rochester Sophomore Gabriella Simmons tied single game
record for three-pointers with 6. What''s even more amazing, Gabriella was
6-for-6 on her three-pointers. Congrats Gabriella!
Huge congratulations
go out to our Wildcats, especially to Chris Mitchell, Tim Artinian and Brianna
DiGiovanni who were selected to the Tournament All-Star Team!
In addition, the boys brought home the Tournament
Sportsmanship Trophy! Go Wildcats!
