Extended Year Summer School Food Drive Project Lends a Helping Hand

Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD) Elementary School students in Mrs. Kathy Tarello's classroom - Shanya, Dominic, Justin, and Liandria, and their teaching assistant Ms. Brenda Lester, delivered food items to A Meal and More on Thursday, August 15, 2013. A Meal and More is a soup kitchen is located at Christ Church, 141 East Avenue, in downtown Rochester, New York.

Students delivered the collected food items to Manager of Operations/Chef Jeff Caruso and program volunteer Karen Maggio. Students were also greeted at the soup kitchen by RSD media partners from WHEC-TV, YNN Time Warner Cable and the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper. Chef Caruso was humbled and grateful to receive the food that the children from RSD collected from fellow classmates, their families, school staff and generous friends. Chef Caruso showed students around his kitchen, serving area and dining room. After Mrs. Tarello and Ms. Lester were interviewed by reporters, students helped Chef Caruso put away the food items they shared with A Meal and More.

At A Meal and More, meals are chef prepared, free-of-charge, hot, well-balanced, and nutritious. As many as 100 or more guests are served every Wednesday and Sunday in a safe, inviting and clean environment.
