RSD Students Give A Meal and More 08/15/13
Extended Year Summer School Food Drive Project Lends a
Rochester School for the Deaf (RSD) Elementary School
students in Mrs. Kathy Tarello's classroom - Shanya, Dominic, Justin, and
Liandria, and their teaching assistant Ms. Brenda Lester, delivered food items
to A Meal and More on Thursday, August 15, 2013. A Meal and More is a soup
kitchen is located at Christ Church, 141 East Avenue, in downtown Rochester,
Students delivered the collected food items to Manager of
Operations/Chef Jeff Caruso and program volunteer Karen Maggio. Students were
also greeted at the soup kitchen by RSD media partners from WHEC-TV, YNN Time
Warner Cable and the Democrat and Chronicle newspaper. Chef Caruso was humbled
and grateful to receive the food that the children from RSD collected from fellow
classmates, their families, school staff and generous friends. Chef Caruso
showed students around his kitchen, serving area and dining room. After Mrs.
Tarello and Ms. Lester were interviewed by reporters, students helped Chef
Caruso put away the food items they shared with A Meal and More.
At A Meal and More, meals are chef prepared, free-of-charge,
hot, well-balanced, and nutritious. As many as 100 or more guests are served
every Wednesday and Sunday in a safe, inviting and clean environment. Guests
include the homeless, disabled, unemployed, elderly, children and anyone
needing a helping hand at this time in their lives.
