Police Activities League Day at RSD 11/22/13
Rochester School for the Deaf welcomed City of Rochester and Town of Webster Police Department officers on Friday, November 22, 2013, for Police Activities League Day (PAL). It was the first time ever for Rochester area police officers to host a PAL at RSD. Activities for students at all grade levels included: Presentations in the school auditorium on safety, police interaction with citizens who are deaf, texting while driving and to 911, citizen rights when arrested, crime scene investigation, fingerprinting, and equipment police officers use; an obstacle course and bowling pin dodge ball in the gym; Police car and equipment demonstration and officer interaction with students in the school yard; and, interaction with K-9 unit officers.
The PAL at RSD was coordinated by school Teaching Assistant Ms. Susan Klein and Rochester Police Department Officer Renee Nicholls, RPD liaison to the Deaf community.
RSD Outreach Services Signs for All Program has been assisting RPD officers with lessons and seminars covering American Sign Language, Deaf culture and Deaf technology on an ongoing basis.
